Silica Dust Cleanup / Industrial Cleaning
Crystalline Silica dust exposure is a topic of concern, especially since new OSHA standards are coming into effect in 2017 or sooner.
We encounter it during our industrial and duct cleaning operations in construction projects, foundries, glass manufacturers, refractories, ready-mix concrete, dental labs, etc.
Crystalline Silica is a common component found in mortar, bricks, sand, rock, and other materials. It is the secondย most common element in the Earthโs crust.
ย When Silica is pulverized, ground, cut, etc., it has sharp edges. These edges, when inhaled, get stuck in your lungs. Some consider this very similar to asbestos fiber inhalation. This leads to Lung Cancer, Silicasis, and other respiratory diseases, which can lead to death in some cases in 5 years.ย
If you are a plant manager who has silica dust buildup on the ductwork, beams, walls, etc., we strongly recommend allowing us to clean it up properly with properly trained personnel, proper PPE (personal protective equipment), and air sampling data. Please do not allow your personnel to use blowdown procedures, etc. This can lead to heavy contamination of airborne fibers.
If your facility’s ductwork system operates in areas where silica dust is located, please have it professionally cleaned by our personnel. Letting this dust recirculate through the โlungs of your buildingโ can contaminate the air and surrounding areas/offices.
