Silica Dust Cleanup / Industrial Cleaning
Crystalline Silica dust exposure is a topic of concern especially due to new OSHA standards coming into effect in 2017 or sooner.
We encouter it during our industrial cleaning operations and duct cleaning operations in construction projects, foundries, glass manufactures, refractory, ready-mix concrete, dental labs, etc.
Crystalline Silica is a common component found in mortar, bricks, sand, rock, etc. It is the 2nd most common element in the Earth’s crust.
When Silica is pulverized, ground, cut, etc is has sharp edges. These edges, when inhaled, get stuck in your lungs. This is considered very similar to asbestos fiber inhallation by some. This leads to Lung Cancer, Silicosis and other respiratory diseases leading to death in some cases in 5 years.
If you are a plant manger that has silica dust buildup on the ductwork, beams, walls, etc we strongly recommend allowing us to clean it up properly with properly trained personnel with proper PPE (personal protective equipment) and air sampling data. Please do not allow your personnel to use blow down procedures, etc. This can lead to a heavy contamination of air borne fibers.
If your facility ductwork system operates in areas where silica dust is located, please have it professionally cleaned by our personnel. Letting this dust recirculite through the “lungs of your building” can lead to contamination of the air and to surrounding areas/offices.
